In their final game in the Falcon Dome, seniors
Miles Daniels and
Lemmie Howard made it count for UT Permian Basin. The duo combined for 49 points, including a career high 20 from Howard on 10-of-12 shooting against Texas A&M – Commerce. Daniels finished with 29 points and four assists and became the second player in program history to reach 100 threes in a single season. Over his last 10 games, Daniels is averaging 23.1 points per game and shooting .500 percent from three.
The Lions, the No. 5 team in the South Central Region, came out on fire and took an 8-0 lead. They pushed the lead to nine before the Falcons got hot.
DaJuan Jones made a layup and Daniels followed with a three. Howard knocked down a jumper and forced a time out from the visitors.
After Daniels cut it to a one-point game, the Lions stretched their lead with a 10-0 run. Howard scored six straight points and
Kendal Frey knocked down a three to get the Falcons back within four. A Daniels four-point play got the team back within a possession. After exchanging baskets Daniels sank a pair of free throws to tie the score and eventually the game went into the locker room tied at 36.
Back-to-back threes by Daniels and
Jordan Horn to start the second half put the Falcons in front for the first time. Two more threes by Daniels pushed the lead to five but the Lions responded with a pair of their own to retake the lead. After trading points an eventual 7-0 run by the Lions was enough separation to stay ahead for good and an 87-81 final.
Jones finished with 11 points and eight assists. Frey had eight points along with a team high seven rebounds.
