On the final day of the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships,
Evan Siegrist saved his best for last as he broke the UT Permian Basin record in the 1,650 freestyle event. The sophomore placed third overall and recorded an NCAA B-cut time at 15:59.41.
The Falcons had three finishers in the top eight of the 200 breaststroke with
Matthew Newman leading the way, followed closely by
Axel Torres Hecker and Richard Gutierrez.
Kathe Hepfer had another great night on the boards, finishing in third place in the 1-meter event. She was the highest placing freshman in the event. The men finished the night strong with a third-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of
Armando Flores,
Alex Wickens,
Trevor Heath, and
Niklas Heelein finished with a time of 3:05.06.
Overall the Falcon men finished the championships in fifth place while the women placed sixth.
Day Three
Friday was another night of terrific diving for the Falcons.
Matthew Lenzo picked up his second second place finish of the event after posting a score of 453.75 in the 3-meter dive.
Jazzy Tscherne came seventh in a tight 100 backstroke, finishing just two seconds off the lead.
Siegrist placed seventh in the 200 butterfly. The Falcons picked up points in the men's and women's freestyle relays. The women finished less than .2 off of fourth place in their event while the men placed fourth in theirs.
Day Two
Competing in her first conference championships,
Hepfer placed second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 442.2.
Siegrist picked up the team's first top five of the day in the 400 IM, placing fifth. Freshman
Heelein had a strong 200 freestyle with a seventh-place finish. The men and women each placed fifth in the 400 medley relay to close out the second night of competition.
Day One
Lenzo dazzled in the 1-meter where he finished day one with a second-place score of 434.15. To start the day the women placed sixth in the 200-medley relay before the men finished fifth in their event.
Heelein had a strong showing in the 1,000 freestyle, placing fifth and came close to an NCAA B-cut time. In the 200-freestyle relay the women placed fifth while the men came in fourth.
