Macias Dominates in Series Finale against Javelinas

Mario Macias was lights out for UT Permian Basin Baseball on Sunday afternoon against Texas A&M – Kingsville. The junior pitched seven innings of three-hit ball as he fanned three Javelinas in his home debut.

Oswaldo Godina once again showed off his power as he hit a two-run home run in the second inning over the right field wall to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead early in the ball game.

Each team put up zeros all the way until the eighth inning when the Falcons struck again. Gabriel Morin got a base hit up the middle and a misplay by the Javelina center fielder brought home Christian Rodriguez for the 3-0 lead.

Trey Penny came in the eighth inning to relieve Macias and kept the Javelinas off the scoreboard as he struck out one and forced 5-4-3 double play to end the inning.

The Javelinas didn't go down quietly as they scored three to tie the game in the top of the ninth to force extra innings and eventually win 5-3 in 10 innings.

Godina and Easley De La Cruz each had two hits for the Falcons as both hitters collected a double. Garret Thornton also had a double in the game to pace the offense.

Before the scheduled game today both teams finished their suspended game from yesterday as it was called due to darkness. In that game Gabe Melendez hit a grand slam and Brayden Williamson pitched 1.2 innings of one-hit ball.
