Holly Hemmeline had it going on Saturday for UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball, knocking down five threes for a season high 17 points against Texas A&M – Kingsville. While she had it working from the outside,
Alexus Wykoff was a force inside matching Hemmeline with 17 points.
Ogechi Nwodo continued her red-hot play with another double-double, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Javelinas, battling for a first-round bye in the Lone Star Conference playoffs, opened the game with back-to-back threes before the offense went cold. The Falcons took advantage and went on an 18-0 before a Javelina free throw closed the quarter.
The Falcon deficit was trimmed by an early run in the second period. Five points from Wykoff kept the Falcons in front, while a three by Hemmeline held the lead at six. The Javelinas cut the lead to one with two minutes remaining in the quarter. Three points from
Kamari Portalis and an
Ally Haman lay-up pushed the lead to six heading into the locker room.
The Javelinas came out of the locker room strong and took a one-point lead, but the Falcons answered right back with a 7-0 run. They pushed the lead to 10 before a pair of free throws by the visitors made it 55-47 heading into the fourth. In the fourth the Falcon offense went cold as the Javelinas came from behind to take it 71-69 in the closing seconds.
The Falcons dominated the boards and won the rebound battle 45-28.
