Godina Carries Falcon Offense in Victory

The UT Permian Basin offense was once again showing their strength as they hit three home runs in their doubleheader on Saturday against Texas A&M – Kingsville. Oswaldo Godina homered and scored twice for the Falcons in game one. His homer came in the first inning to give the Falcons an early lead.

After Godina's first inning blast, Garret Thornton hit the second home run of the game for the Falcons as he hit a solo shot to left to give them a four-run cushion in the third.

The bats went cold until the Javelinas tied it in the fifth. That comeback didn't stop the Falcons from scoring in the bottom part of the frame as Gabe Melendez touched home and Godina crossed the plate on a Christian Rodriguez sacrifice fly for the 6-4 final.

Godina and Jay DeSoto finished the game with two hits. Godina drove in three runs and scored twice.

Parker Buys got the nod as he pitched 4.1 innings striking out four. Clay Thompson came in relief and collected his first win of the season pitching 1.2 innings of no-hit ball. Austin Parks got the save in one inning of work striking out a pair of Javelinas.

In game two the Falcons got going in the second inning after the Javelinas got a lead in the first and second innings. Melendez hit a rocket to left for a grand slam as the Falcons cut the Javelina deficit to two runs on one swing of the bat.

After zeros were traded in the third inning the Javelinas took control of the game before it was suspended due to darkness.

In relief Brayden Williamson pitched 1.2 innings allowing only one hit.

The game will continue tomorrow at 1 PM, followed by the regularly scheduled nine inning game.

The Falcons finished up their suspended game on Friday due to darkness. They tallied 19 hits as 11 of them were extra base hits. Michael Clapperton led the Falcons with a pair of doubles and a home run.
