Box Score After four plus hours of back-and-forth offense, the UT Permian Basin Baseball home opener was halted due to darkness before the start of the bottom of the ninth. The Falcon bats were hot on the day, racking up 19 hits, including four home runs.
The Falcon offense got going in the second inning.
Cole Dickie and
Christian Rodriguez reached on back-to-back singles and advanced on a bunt.
Marcus Johnson followed with a triple to left center to plate the first two Falcon runs of the day.
In the fourth, Rodriguez crushed one out to left center for his first home run of the year.
Michael Clapperton followed with a double to left. Two batters later,
Garret Thornton hit a no doubter to left for the second homer of the inning.
After Gabe Melendez walked in the fifth, Dickie pulled one down the line in left for the third home run of the day. The offense got going again in the sixth. Clapperton started things with his second double of the afternoon and was followed by a Johnson walk. Thornton doubled to left to bring in a run and
Jay DeSoto plated another on a long sacrifice fly.
Pedro Astacio singled in Thornton for the 10
th run of the game.
The Falcons put up their fourth straight crooked number in the seventh. Clapperton once again got the offense going with a long home run with two outs. Back-to-back singles brought up DeSoto. The senior got just enough of it to poke it through the infield for an RBI-single. In the eighth, the Falcons got another run on a double by Dickie.
Marcus Johnson was set to lead off the ninth for the Falcons at the time play ended with the Falcons trailing 22-13. The game will resume at noon, with the regularly scheduled doubleheader slated to follow.
