Defense Locks Down Sharks for Second Straight Win in Hawai'i

UT Permian Basin Men's Basketball turned in one of their best defensive performances on the season on Saturday against Hawai'i Pacific.  The Falcons held the Sharks to just 55 points, the second fewest allowed by the team this season, and allowed just eight field goals in the second half in a 60-55 victory.

DaJuan Jones led the team with 16 points along with six rebounds and five assists.  The senior was 7-of-8 from the free throw line and knocked down three from long range.  Keyon Craddock also finished in double figures with 12 points.  Jalen King and Azariah Seay added in eight each.

The Falcons started what would become a defensive battle fast by scoring the first seven points of the game.  The Sharks eventually got on the board and after back-to-back threes, took a one-point lead.  The Falcons went on a 7-0 run, but was immediately answered by the Sharks with one of their own to tie the game again.  A six-point run by the Sharks in the final three minutes of the half swung the lead in their favor heading into halftime with the 32-29 lead.

They'd push the lead to five early in the second half but the Falcons responded with an 8-0 run to go up by three.  The Falcons led by five before a 5-0 run by the Sharks tied things at 48 with 9:18 to go.  From there it was all Falcons.  Jones buried that sparked an 8-0 run that saw the Falcons grab the lead for good.  A late three-point play by the Sharks made things a three-point contest but Seay capped things off with a steal and slam on the other end in the final minute.

Nathaniel Powell led the team with seven rebounds.  King added six boards and three assists to his eight points.  The defense held the Sharks to 8-of-25 shooting in the second half, just 32 percent from the field.

The Falcons go for their third straight victory tomorrow against RV St. Martin's in their final game of the Hoops in Hawai'i Classic.  Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
