In the first half of the season it's been much of the same story for UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball on the offensive end. That's get the ball to junior
Andreea Mancha, who scored a team-high 18 points on Friday against Angelo State. She wasn't the only one with the scorer's touch on Friday with
Kamari Portalis adding 12 off the bench.
The Falcons came out of the gates and took the lead on a 6-0 run. Portalis made three straight Falcon baskets before the teams traded points the rest of the quarter. At the end of the period it was the Falcons on top 21-20 of a high scoring affair. As hot as the offenses were in the first, they both went cold in the second. The Rambelles took a seven-point lead, before the Falcons closed the last two minutes and change on a 6-0 run heading into the half.
Out of the locker rooms the Falcons were on fire and a three by
Morgan Helgesen capped off an 8-0 run to put them ahead by seven. After a timeout, the Belles battled back and eventually took a five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was a defensive battle as the sides combined to go 6-for-38 (16 percent) from the field. The Falcons made things interesting with a pair of late threes by Mancha, but it was too late and too many Belle free throws kept them in front for the 68-59 final.
Helgesen had a solid afternoon with eight points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Avalon Munoz added in eight points as well.
Alexus Quaadman had 10 of the Falcons' 47 rebounds on the afternoon.
The Falcons are off for a week before returning to action at Eastern New Mexico on December 30. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
