Junior
Alexus Quaadman continues to dominate the post for UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball, picking up her third double-double of the season on Friday at Eastern New Mexico. She grabbed 14 rebounds and added 11 points, with seven coming from the charity stripe, as the Falcons returned to Lone Star Conference action after the holiday break. It was the junior's third straight game with double digit boards.
The Falcons opened the game with the first four points of the night on a pair of free throws by
Avalon Munoz and a layup from
Kamari Portalis. The home team kept within striking distance as both offenses found their grove early and ended the period 18-17 in favor of the Falcons.
Diavian Spencer knocked down a three to start eh second quarter and Portalis followed with a bucket to push the lead to six. The Greyhounds answered with a 7-0 run and flipped the lead in favor of them. Down the stretch a pair of threes by
Morgan Helgesen and
Andreea Mancha put the Falcons back ahead 35-33 at the half.
A 4-0 run again matched the largest Falcon lead at six to open the second half. After the Greyhounds answered to tie the score again, the teams exchanged buckets and went to the fourth quarter with the Falcons up 46-44. The home team found momentum early in the fourth with a 10-0 run to take the largest lead of the game for either side. The Falcon offense struggled in the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to just two on a pair of Quaadman free throws, but three from the charity stripe by the Greyhounds kept them ahead for the 65-60 final.
Munoz also finished the night with 11 points along with five assists. Off the bench Portalis had 10 points.
The Falcons head to Silver City, NM for a Lone Star Conference contest on Sunday. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
