Four players scored in double figures on Monday as UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball cruised to a victory in their home opener against Sul Ross State, 86-53.
Holly Hemmeline and
Diavian Spencer led the way with 15 points each while
Andreea Mancha added 13 and
Avalon Munoz scored 11. Hemmeline also added in six rebounds as the Falcons dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Lobos 37-29.
The Falcons came out shooting with a three by Mancha just 10 seconds into the game. The Lobos took the lead with a 6-0 run, but Hemmeline's layup with 5:08 left in the quarter to retake the lead. It was all Falcons from there and ended the quarter up 20-8. The second quarter was controlled by the Falcons, pushing the lead to as many as 16 before heading into the locker room up 42-29.
Mancha started the second half the same as the first with a three. After the Lobos trimmed the Falcon lead to 10, Hemmeline and Spencer combined for the next 12 points and took a 22-point lead. The run didn't stop there and they ended the third quarter on an 18-2 run to blow the game open. They continued to score and eventually led by as many as 37 down the stretch.
Alexus Quaadman added seven points and a team high eight rebounds. The Falcons forced 36 turnovers, scoring 40 points off of them.
