Andreea Mancha led UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball in scoring with a career-high 17 on Friday at Metro State. It came on 6-of-12 shooting and 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. She also added four rebounds.
Holly Hemmeline opened scoring with a triple for a 3-0 lead at 7:55 in the first quarter. The Falcons upped it to 5-2 on a layup from
Alexus Quaadman before Metro State took a 6-5 advantage. Quaadman tied it 6-6 with a free throw to start a 6-0 run to finish the first. Hemmeline later hit a three before
Kamari Portalis made a layup for an 11-5 lead going to the second.
Diavian Spencer's layup made it 13-6 and Mancha later added another for a 17-12 score. She used another layup for a 19-14 score with just over two minutes left, but the Roadrunners finished with a 5-0 run for a 19-19 tie at the half.
Metro State scored the first seven of the third before
Avalon Munoz ended the run with a layup at 6:40 to cut it to 26-21. The Roadrunners spent the rest of the third on a 12-3 run for a 38-24 advantage heading to the fourth.
Morgan Helgeson trimmed it to 11 with a triple to begin the fourth, but the Falcons would soon be down 45-29 at 7:28. UTPB answered with an 8-0 run with two free throws from Portalis and a pair of triples from Mancha to make it 45-37 with just over five minutes remaining. Down 10 with under a minute left, Mancha and Hemmeline sank threes to cut it to 52-48 with 29 seconds remaining, but Metro State finished with the last four from the line in a 56-48 final.
Hemmeline scored 12 on 4-of-8 from three, adding four rebounds and four steals.
Quaadman led all rebounders with nine, scored six and added a game-high four blocks.
The Falcons (3-2) next take on Colorado Christian on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Lakewood, Colorado.
