Needing to do some work heading into the final day of the Trinity Invite, UT Permian Basin Men's Swimming and Diving came from behind to win the event. They entered the day trailing Trinity by 22 points before finishing with 1,085.5, nearly 100 more than Trinity.
Daniel Bednarski started the day strong for the Falcons with a second-place finish in the 200-backstroke. They kept pace with
Trevor Heath's third place showing in the 100 freestyle.
Owen Putnam picked up points by taking second in the 200-butterfly. They continued their strong distance swimming by taking the top two spots in the 1,650-freestyle.
Evan Siegrist took home first in the event with
Niklas Heelein following in second. The Falcons closed the swimming portion with another second-place finish, this time in the 400-freestyle relay.
Where the Falcons really dominated was on the boards. In both the 1- and 3-meter events
Carter Wood and
Matthew Lenzo went back-to-back to help the Falcons clinch the win. Wood, a freshman, broke former All-American Garrett Martin's school record in the 1-meter for 11 dives with a score of 526.40. Wood and Lenzo both set personal bests in both events and have now locked up spots at NCAA Zones come March.
The Falcons are off until January 14 when they travel for the Austin College Invite. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
