Freshman Erin McGuire started her collegiate career with a bang by taking the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events at the Sam Freas Invitational in Edmond, OK.
McGuire dominated posting a time of 1:09.66 in the 100-yard and 2:33.66 in the 200-yard events. She wasn't the only Falcon to win Saturday, as fellow freshman
Niklas Heelein took the 1000-yard freestyle by seven seconds.
The Falcons were all over the scoresheet, placing in the top three in multiple events.
Reese Delfeld set the tone early with a pair of third place finishes in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle.
Monica Lomeli placed third in the 500- and 100-yard freestyle events. The women continued to show out with back-to-back second place finishes in the backstroke events. Jazzy Tscherne did her damage in the 100-yard and
Alice Eifert in the 200-yard.
Right behind McGuire in the 100-yard breaststroke was
Kristina Vujosevic in third, just two seconds in back of first. Delfeld continued her strong performance with a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly to close out the individual portion of the women's event. The women finished strong in the relays. Tscherne,
Ava Reaume,
Avery Joiner, and Delfeld combined for a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard medley the Falcons combined to finish second and third in the 200-yard medley. Tscherne, McGuire, Delfeld, and Joiner powered the second-place team while Reaume, Vojosevic,
Kally Morris, and
Taylor Dinsmore-Nassar were the third-place team.
Heelein started his afternoon with a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle before his first-place finish in the 1000-yard event.
Legend Jankowski finished his first collegiate race in second place, only half a second off first in the 200-yard backstroke. In the 200-yard butterfly,
Daryl Wells placed second before
Matthew Newman capped off the individual events with a third-place finish in the 100-yard medley.
