UT Permian Basin Baseball got plenty of production from the middle of the order Friday night against Oklahoma Christian, as the three through seven hitters combined for 13 of the team's 17 hits.
Nick Hernandez and
Devin Ferrari had huge nights, combining for seven hits and seven RBI, along with four extra base hits in the effort.
Hernandez led off the second inning with a laser single. Ferrari followed with double down the leftfield line putting runners in scoring position. With two-out Dickie singled to centerfield to bring home the pair and get the Falcons on the board.
The Falcons pushed home another run in the third on a single by Hernandez to bring home
Michael Clapperton who led off the frame with a walk. In the fourth Colin Fabio and Dickie hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. After a bunt moved them over, Clapperton hit a deep fly ball to centerfield to bring home another run.
Two more crossed the plate in the fifth as
Devin Ferrari showed off his power with a two-run home run to deep left centerfield. The runs kept coming with three more in the sixth. Clapperton started the rally with a one-out triple and scored on a groundout by
Jay DeSoto. The Falcons got a break on as
Garret Thornton reached on an error and advanced on a wild pitch. Hernandez brought him around with a double, then Hernandez scored on a single by Ferrari.
The Falcons rallied in the seventh with two outs.
Pemron Burrows started things off with a hit by pitch and moved to third on a single by Clapperton. DeSoto knocked in Burrows with a single of his own. Thornton then reached on a double that got caught up in the wind for the 11
th run of the night for the Falcons. Hernandez ripped a double into the left centerfield gap to plate the final two runs of the night. Despite the offensive effort, the Falcons fell to the Eagles 23-13.
Hernandez finished 4-for-5 with four RBI and a pair of doubles. Ferrari had three hits and drove in three. Clapperton, DeSoto, Thornton, and Dickie all had two hits each with DeSoto and Dickie also picking up a pair of RBI.
