The UT Permian Basin Baseball offense got on the board early and often Saturday night, scoring five runs in the first two innings for a hard fought 7-5 victory over Oklahoma Christian.
Nick Hernandez continued his prolific season, driving in four runs in the win.
The Falcon offense was clicking from the first pitch of the night but got a little help from Eagle pitching early on. A walk and two hit batters loaded the bases just three batters in.
Nick Hernandez cleared the bases with a double down the leftfield line. The Falcons put up another crooked number in the second. With the score tied at three and runners on second and third,
Jay DeSoto kept his hot bat going with a single to left to bring in a run. Two batters later, Hernandez drove in another run on a sac fly to right for a two-run lead.
After allowing eight runs through two innings, both pitching staffs settled into a grove. The Eagles inched closer with a run in the fifth before the Falcons turned it over to
Tyler Stone out of the bullpen. The Falcons got two huge insurance runs in the seventh. With one-on and one-out,
Pemron Burrows ripped a two-run home run down the leftfield line to give a three-run cushion.
Tyler Stone ran into trouble in the ninth, but escaped a bases loaded jam with a flyout to left to end the ballgame.
Nine of the 10 Falcons to come to the plate had a hit with DeSoto picking up two. Hernandez continued his monster season with four RBI.
Michael Clapperton came around to score twice.
Jake Rohde got the start on the mound and went 4.1 innings, striking out four Eagles. Stone went 4.2 innings out of the bullpen and struck out five for the win.
