Facing one of the best offenses in Division II,
Jake Rohde was great early for UT Permian Basin Baseball. Rohde struck out three in 6.1 innings against No. 11 Angelo State who came in averaging 10.7 runs per game, the second most in the nation.
The Falcons had the early momentum in the game as Rohde struck out two Rams in the first to keep the game scoreless after one inning. The Falcons came up in the top of the second firing as
Nick Hernandez led off with a single to right and Jojo Allen doubled down the left field line to put runners on second and third with nobody out. Later in the inning, Colin Fabio drew a walk leaving the bases loaded for
Pemron Burrows, but he could not cash in the runners as the Falcon threat was done.
Rohde made quick work of the Rams in the bottom of the second which gave the Falcons another chance to break the scoreless tie.
Devin Ferrari led off the inning with a single to left, stole second, and advanced to third on a ground ball. He would not be able to score as the Falcons headed into the bottom of the third tied at zero. Angelo State took momentum in the bottom half of the frame scoring two runs to take the lead and they would not look back as they would defeat the Falcons 10-0.
Cole Dickie led the Falcons by reaching base twice by going 1-for-2 with a walk. Ferrari, Hernandez, and Allen also had hits for the Falcons.
The Falcons and the Rams will return to the diamond tomorrow at 6:00 PM in San Angelo, TX. Download the UTPB Athletics App today to follow the Falcons all season long.
