Jay DeSoto has been a one-man wrecking crew all season and extended his hitting streak to 21 games on Sunday against Lubbock Christian. DeSoto went 2-for-5 with three RBI and now has 13 multi-hit games on the season for UT Permian Basin Baseball.
The Falcon offense got started in the first thanks to hustle from
Garret Thornton. With two outs, Thornton doubled then came around to score from second on a wild pitch after the Chap catcher had trouble locating the ball.
Oswaldo Godina tripled to left center in the third inning scoring
Pemron Burrows from first to tie the game at two. Both pitching staffs found rhythm in the middle innings as the Chaps were able to score a pair in the seventh to make the game 4-2 and then scored five insurance runs in the ninth.
That did not stop the Falcons from making things interesting in the bottom half of the ninth. DeSoto cleared the bases on a three-run triple bringing in Burrows,
Michael Clapperton, and
Peyton Koopman, but that all the Falcons could push across as they fell to the Chaps 9-5.
Spencer Cofer got the start for the Falcons going five innings allowing one earned run and striking out six while giving up only four hits. Burrows went 1-for-4 at the plate and scored twice.
The Falcons will be back in action next week as they head to San Angelo, TX to face Angelo State. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the Falcons all season long.
