Jay DeSoto continued his red-hot stretch on Sunday, hitting for the cycle to wrap-up the weekend series against Oklahoma Christian. DeSoto tripled in the first, singled in the second, doubled in the fourth, and homered in the sixth to become the first player since Jack Miller in 2016 to hit for the cycle.
DeSoto got the offense going in the first inning with his triple, which was followed by single by
Garret Thornton to get the Falcons on the board. A triple once again powered the Falcon offense in the second inning. Colin Fabio singled to right to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Pemron Burrows laced a triple into the right field corner for the team's second run of the game.
Michael Clapperton brought him in on a sacrifice fly to right.
The offense continued to hum in the third to plate another run.
Oswaldo Godina started it off with a one-out single. Then with two-out,
Cole Dickie singled to center to score Godina and tie the game at four. The Falcons took the lead in the fifth on a double to centerfield off the bat of DeSoto, scoring Clapperton who singled to start the inning. The Eagles retook the lead with three in the fifth and one in the sixth, but the Falcons refused to back down.
DeSoto sparked a three-run rally in the sixth with his home run to complete the cycle. Thornton followed him with a four-pitch walk. Two batters later,
Devin Ferrari launched a home run to nearly the same location as DeSoto's. Trailing by a run in the eighth, the Falcons had runners on the corners and two-out. With two strikes on Fabio, a wild pitch allowed Thornton to scamper home to tie the game. The Falcons allowed eight runs in the top of the ninth but came back with two in their half of the inning on a single by
Nick Hernandez, but it wasn't enough for the 17-11 final.
DeSoto finished the day 5-for-6 with a pair of RBI and scored twice. Ferrari had three hits while Thornton and Dickie had a pair each. All nine Falcons in the starting line-up recorded at least one hit.
Clay Thompson was strong in relief throwing three shutout innings.
