It's a new weekend with a new Falcon leading the UT Permian Basin Baseball offense. Tonight, the offense was carried by
Garret Thornton who recorded six hits, including three for extra bases and three RBI. The Falcon offense crossed the plate 13 times between both games of a doubleheader at St. Mary's.
The Falcons struck first just four batters into the day.
Michael Clapperton worked a lead-off walk and swiped second.
Nick Hernandez reached on an error to score Clapperton for the early lead. The offense was kept quiet until the fifth.
Jay DeSoto started the fifth with a single through the left side. Then on a 3-2 pitch, Thornton homered to left for a two-run home run. In the sixth, the Falcons scored another run on a DeSoto double but Falcon pitching couldn't hold the Rattler offense and fell 16-4.
Just two batters into game two the Falcons got on the board. DeSoto smashed the first-pitch to right center for a solo home run and the early lead. Thornton got the offense going in the fourth with a lead-off double. After a walk to
Hayden Matthewson,
J Raul Lopez singled to right to bring in Thornton.
Torren Brozovich worked a walk to load the bases with two-out. The Falcons scored three on a double to left center off the bat of
Pemron Burrows for their fifth runs of the game.
In the fifth, DeSoto drove in Clapperton for the sixth run of the game. The Falcons scored a pair in the eighth. Thornton once again got the offense going with a single through the left side.
Joe Allen IV followed with a double to right center scoring Thornton. Two batters later Matthewson brought Allen in on a ground ball for the eighth Falcon run. The final run of the day came in the ninth off the bat of Thornton with another double to left center. Once again Falcon pitching struggled to contain the Rattlers and fell 16-9.
DeSoto stayed hot with four more hits while Clapperton added three. Thornton and Burrows each led the way with three RBI.
