Prized Houston Prospect Fortifies Men's Basketball Backcourt

3/31/2021 12:05:00 PM

UT Permian Basin Men's Basketball is getting a major boost for the upcoming season after signing one of the top-rated players in the state of Texas, Patrick Punch.  Punch is rated the 68th best player in Texas and the 22nd best player in the city of Houston.

"Patrick is a versatile guard with length and size," said Head Coach Josh Newman.  "He has tremendous range from behind the arc and will be a constant threat from long range.  Pat's length and athleticism allow him to be a very good defender and playmaker."

Punch, a 6-4 guard, scored over 1,500 points in his career at Dwight D. Eisenhower High School.  As a senior he averaged 24.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists and was a unanimous First Team All-District selection.  He also earned First Team All-District honors as a junior and Second Team All-District as a sophomore.  The three year starter was named the 2020 Katy Classic Tournament MVP and was a two-time Guy V Lewis Award candidate for best player in Houston.

He will join a roster that will also include freshman Drew Crippen along with Quinntez Grimes, Zack Selvage, and Wesley Hayes, who will retain their freshman eligibility.
