Godina Shines with Four Hits and Three Extra Base Hits

UT Permian Basin Baseball's offense was out in full force on Sunday against No. 25 UT Tyler.  The offense was led Sunday by Oswaldo Godina, who went 4-for-5 with a pair of triples and a double.
 
After a four-run first from the Patriots, the Falcons responded in the second and third innings. In the second, Jojo Allen singled through the right-side scoring Godina to trail 4-1. The Falcons took the lead in the third inning. Jay DeSoto reached on a fielder's choice scoring Michael Clapperton then DeSoto came around to score on a two-run home run by Garret Thornton to tie the game at 4-4. The Falcons took the lead on a double by Godina scoring Nick Hernandez for the 5-4 lead.
 
The Patriots scored five more runs before the Falcons responded in the sixth. Clapperton walked with the bases loaded scoring Allen. DeSoto reached on a fielder's choice scoring Pemron Burrows as the Falcons cut the deficit to two after six innings of play.
 
The Falcons would score again in the eighth on a DeSoto double bringing in Devin Ferrari and Clapperton to trail 12-9. The Falcons scored again in the ninth on an Allen single to center field scoring Godina.  Clapperton also singled to center scoring Allen to give the Falcons 11 runs on the afternoon. It wasn't enough as the Patriots also scored in the eighth and ninth innings for them to take the 16-11 victory.
 
Allen collected three hits making the start at second base.  Ferrari along with Hernandez had a multi-hit game as well. DeSoto led the Falcons with four RBI. Thornton, Allen, and Clapperton each had two RBI. Godina, Allen, and Clapperton each crossed the plate twice.
 
The Falcons will be on the road next Thursday as they will be in Fort Smith, AR to face UA Fort Smith for a single game starting at 3 PM. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the Falcons all season long.
