On a night where 11 members of UT Permian Basin Volleyball had a dig, it was
Marissa Aguilar and Ericka Lozano who led the way. Lozano set a season-high with 12 while Aguilar recorded her fourth straight game with double digit digs. The senior also added seven kills, the second most on the team behind
Stephanie Sanchez's eight.
The Falcons fell behind early in the first set, but errors by West Texas A&M allowed them to hang around. The first set was tight until a 5-1 Lady Buff run gave them a little cushion. The Falcons closed the set strong scoring five of the final seven points on the strength of kills by
Analise Lucio,
Taurie Magee, and Sanchez along with a block by Magee and Sanchez. It wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit as the Falcons fell in the first set 25-19.
An early four-point run by the Falcons early in the second set propelled them to the lead. Magee and Sanchez took turns with two kills apiece. The teams traded points with the Falcons holding onto a slim lead before the Lady Buffs went on a run to take the lead. They started to pull away, but three Lady Buff errors got the Falcons right back in it at 17-all. Aguilar helped in a late run with back-to-back kills, but it was too late as the Falcons fell by the slimmest of margins 25-23.
The Falcons struggled to find any momentum in the third set, with only three runs of consecutive points as the Lady Buffs took the match in three sets.
Lucio continued to pace the team in assists with 18. Magee and
Aquincia Strambler had five kills each offensively for the Falcons.
Devin Alcoser added eight assists with five digs while
Karli Stanley added five assists and five kills.
The Falcons are back in action tomorrow night for the final game of the two-game series starting at 6 PM.
