Another night, another double digit kill match for
Aquincia Strambler who posted her third of the season and took control of the lead in kills for UT Permian Basin Volleyball. The junior finished the night with a team-high 14 and a .345 attacking percentage and now has 59 kills on the season. Joining Strambler with big nights were
Analise Lucio with 24 assists, giving her 1,459 for her career, and
Daylee Doggett with 15 digs.
The Falcons looked to start fast after last night but fell behind RV West Texas A&M early. They were helped mostly by early Lady Buff mistakes, as they committed five errors in the first set. Strambler added a pair of kills while
Taurie Magee added a pair of blocks but it wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit.
The second set went into extra points. The teams traded points early with neither side able to gain momentum. A kill by
Isela Murillo sparked a 4-0 Falcon run. Strambler backed her up with back-to-back kills and an error gave the Falcons a three-point advantage. The teams continued to trade points with Strambler adding in two more kills. The Lady Buffs swung momentum with a four-point run of their own, but the Falcons retook the lead on the strength of another pair of Strambler kills. The Falcons had set point, but the Lady Buffs scored back-to-back points to tie the score at 24. The Falcons twice more had set point but couldn't finish and fell in the set 28-26.
The third set saw the Falcons fall behind early but get back into the match with a 10-2 run. After a kill by
Marissa Aguilar and a Lady Buff error the Falcons held a one-point lead. It wouldn't last as the Lady Buffs rolled off five straight points to take the momentum before closing out the set 25-19.
Aguilar finished the night with six kills and six digs, while Magee and Murillo finished with four kills each.
Lanai Hurd had eight digs with five assists while Ericka Lozano had seven digs.
The Falcons return home next week for one game against Western New Mexico, Monday night in Odessa.
