Sanchez Pulls Off Upset Over D1 Opponent

2/5/2021 11:03:00 PM

Box Score Enrique Sanchez grabbed one of the biggest wins of his career defeating the No. 1 singles player for Abilene Christian.  Sanchez pulled off the upset in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 10-7, over Javan Chhabra.

"I am really proud of Enrique," said Head Coach Stan Anderson.  "This was his best match of the year and he played with great poise. That match came down to who wanted it the most and Enrique won that battle. He is an outstanding leader and showed unbelievable heart and determination in grinding out the win."

Roberto Garcia also nearly pulled off an upset taking the No. 4 singles for the Wildcats to three sets.  He took the first set and then went to a third set tiebreaker before falling.

"We lost a very hard-fought match against a Division I opponent today," said Anderson.  "The team was close in all three doubles matches before losing several games on deciding points. I felt like we put ourselves in position to win each match, but we were just not able to close out games and win the big points when we had the opportunity.  The season is a long grind and it is our goal to get better every match and I think we played better today than last week."
