Behind 12 kills each from
Aquincia Strambler and
Taurie Magee, UT Permian Basin Volleyball rolled to their first victory of the season in four sets over RV Lubbock Christian. The Falcon hitters were extremely effective Wednesday night, hitting .265 with a season-high 58 kills. Joining Strambler and Magee with double digit kills was
Isela Murillo with 11.
In set one the Falcons could not get much going offensively. After trailing early, the Falcons brought the set to within one on back-to-back kills from Murillo and
Marissa Aguilar. Strambler kept the Falcons within striking distance with back-to-back kills as they trailed 14-12, but the Lady Chaps went on a 6-1 run to pull away and take the set 25-20.
The Falcons started set two strong with a 7-2 run including back-to-back kills from
Stephanie Sanchez. They held a sizeable lead throughout much of the set and held off a late surge from the Lady Chaps. The Falcons ended it on a 4-2 run with kills from
Analise Lucio,
Cassandra Rother, and two from Magee to win the set 25-21.
The Falcons made several long runs during the third set. An early 6-0 pushed the Falcons into the lead. After two points from the Lady Chaps, the Falcons responded with three to take a five-point lead. The Lady Chaps made things interesting, closing the Falcon lead to just one. Down the stretch, the Falcons took advantage of four Lady Chap errors as part of a 6-0 run to take the set 25-18.
The Falcons struck early and often in the fourth set. Two runs of four straight Falcon points, including three kills by
Stephanie Sanchez, thrust them to a 12-3 lead. The Falcons put away the Lady Chaps, with a late three-point run including back-to-back kills by Strambler. Aguilar put down the final ball of the night to take the fourth set 25-17 in convincing fashion.
Lucio posted her second straight double-double with 35 assists and 13 digs.
Devin Alcoser set a career-high with 17 assists.
Daylee Doggett led the team with 17 digs, while Aguilar added 10. Sanchez added nine kills. Along with her 12 kills, Magee had a big night defensively with six blocks.
