Facing one of the best all-around teams in Division II, UT Permian Basin Baseball's pitching staff made life difficult for No. 11 West Texas A&M. Six pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts, including eight by starter
Tyler Stone in just three innings of work.
Stone's only outs not via strike out were a fly ball and a pick off to end the third inning. He allowed only one hit and no earned runs before departing. The bullpen followed his lead in missing bats, as they combined to stroke out four. Ed O'Bannon fanned two batters in his one inning of work, while
Arnaldo Garcia Torres and
Caleb Vuono each struck out one.
Offensively Jay Desoto once again led the way. The Falcon second baseman put the Falcons on the board first with an RBI-triple in the top of the fourth bringing home
Nick Hernandez. The Falcon bats were kept quiet as
Hayden Matthewson had the only other hit on the afternoon. As a team the Falcons drew five walks with
Peyton Koopman drawing a pair. It wasn't enough as the Falcons fell to the No. 11 Buffs 9-1.
The Falcons return home next week to take on Eastern New Mexico in a weekend series starting Friday. Download the UTPB Athletics App to keep up to date with all your favorite Falcon teams.
