UT Permian Basin Volleyball had huge performances on offense and defense Wednesday night at No. 3 Angelo State. Defensively, the Falcons combined for 92 digs including double figure digs by four players.
Daylee Doggett led the team with a career-high 23 while
Lanai Hurd and
Isela Murillo finished just shy of career-highs with 21 and 19 respectively.
Analise Lucio once again had a huge night with 39 assists and 13 digs. Offensively, Aquincia Stambler led the team with 18 kills while
Taurie Magee finished with 13.
The Falcons looked to replicate last night and take the first set from the No. 3 team in the nation. The teams were evenly matched throughout the first, but a late four-point run by the Rambelles pushed them just enough out in front to take the set.
Set two started with a bang with the Falcons taking 10 of the first 11 points. Doggett had a pair of aces while Magee had a pair of kills and the Falcons forced five errors by the Belles. The Belles tried to make things interesting, but a 7-1 Falcon run seized control of the set as they cruised to the 25-15 win.
The Falcons had to battle back in the third set after trailing by five. They did, tying the set twice at 20, 21, and 22 points, but couldn't quite get over the top as the Belles took the final three points for the set. Much like the first and third sets, the Falcons and Belles traded points, but it was one run that made the difference. With the score tied at 17, the No. 3 Belles scored four straight to wrestle control and eventually took the match in four tightly contested sets.
The Falcons return home next week to take on West Texas A&M in a pair of mid-week games starting Tuesday. Download the UTPB Athletics App today to stay up to date on all your favorite Falcon teams.
