UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball owned the paint and outrebounded the No. 1 team in the country, Lubbock Christian, 44-30 Sunday afternoon. The Falcons grabbed 24 offensive boards including four by
Avalon Munoz and three each from
Alexis Popham, Alexis Quaadman, and
Chaunta Thomas.
The Falcons held the lead through a defensive battle in the first quarter, 8-7. In the second quarter the Lady Chaps went on a 12-0 run to take the lead. The Falcons continued to battle but the defending national champions were too much to overcome in the second half and fell 72-48.
Popham had another stellar game scoring 14 points, two days after setting a career-high with 15. Munoz led the way in rebounding for the Falcons with seven. Quaadman and Thomas had six each while Popham had five rebounds.
The Falcons also shot 90 percent, 18-of-20, from the free throw line. Munoz, Thomas,
Lauren Stallworth,
Morgan Helgesen, and
Rory Carter were all perfect from the line.
