Senior
Adam Rivera continues to pull down rebounds and is closing in on the top-5 of the program record book. The Amarillo native grabbed six Friday night against No. 9 Lubbock Christian and sits just 11 out of the top-5 with three games to go with 385 career rebounds.
Things started fast for the Falcon offense against the No. 9 team in the country. Rivera buried a three on the opening possession and was followed by a
Jordan Horn layup and a free throw by
Trevion Lamar. The Chaps answered back with a run to take the lead and the teams battled from there. The long ball pushed the deficit to 11, but the Falcons continued to battle. A four-point run by
Malik Brikat and a three by
Wesley Hayes swung momentum and brought the Falcons back in the game. Both sides continued to trade blows, but the Falcons trailed by seven heading into the locker rooms.
The Falcons cut the deficit to five with 14:44 to go, but the Chaps took control from there. They'd hit nine of 10 from deep to steal the momentum and pull away in the second half.
Lamar finished the night with a team-high 11 points along with five boards. Rivera led the team in rebounds with six and added four points. Facing his former school
Jay Workman scored nine points, while
Zack Selvage scored eight points in his first action in over a month.
The Falcons hit the road to take on No. 9 LCU once again this Sunday. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
