DaJuan Jones continues to show why he's one of the best point guards in Division II with his third double-double of the year. The senior had 16 points and 12 assists, one shy of the program single game record, as the Falcons used a big second half to defeat St. Edward's 81-74 in the Falcons' first home game in three weeks.
A pair of
Jordan Horn threes got the action started as the teams combined to score 20 points by the first media timeout. From there it turned into a defensive slugfest, including a four-minute span where only two points were scored by either side. Jones broke that slide with a four-point run of his own to push the Falcon lead to a half high of six. The Hilltoppers trimmed their deficit to just one before a Horn jumper sent things into the half 32-28 Falcons.
The Falcon offense came to life in the second half.
Miles Daniels knocked down a three to push the lead to eight. Back-to-back buckets by the Hilltoppers made it a four-point game but the Falcons put things away from there. Daniels scored four points and Jones buried a three as part of an 11-0 run to put the Falcons up 49-34. Minutes later a 7-0 Falcon run pushed the lead to 20. The Falcons took their foot off the gas as the Hilltoppers chipped away at the lead, but it was much too late.
Horn led the team with 19 points to go along with six rebounds. Jones added four rebounds to his effort. Daniels had 11 points before fouling out.
Lemmie Howard had a team high nine rebounds as the team won the battle on the boards 38-29. The Falcons dominated in points in the paint 42-26. In the second half the Falcons went 19-of-29 (65.5 percent) form the field.
