Before Thursday night Texas A&M – Kingsville hadn't lost on their home floor since 2019, a streak lasting 16 games. That all came to an end behind the offensive heroics of
Jordan Horn and
Dajuan Jones who combined to score 39 points in UT Permian Basin's 75-65 win over the Javelinas. Horn scored a game high 20 points while Jones added 19 along with six assists to pull away in the second half.
The Falcons called a timeout just 90 seconds into the game after the Javelinas knocked down back-to-back threes to open things up. An eight-point swing had the Falcons up just minutes later. The Javelinas answered right back with a run of their own to take a six-point lead, but the Falcons responded with an 8-0 to swing momentum back in their favor. Both teams then traded buckets and went into the half knotted at 37.
Jones started the scoring in the second half and was followed by a bucked by Horn and it was all Falcons from there. A three-pointer by Horn pushed the lead to seven and forced a timeout by the Javelinas. The Javelinas made things interesting late by cutting the Falcon lead down to just three, but buckets by Horn and
Lemmie Howard righted the ship as the Falcons coasted down the stretch for the win.
Jones was a one-man force adding four rebounds and three steals while going 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Howard finished in double figures with 10 points of his own. As a team the Falcons shot 55.6 percent from the field. The defense held the Javelinas to just 1-for-9 from three-point range in the second half. The last time the Javelinas lost on their home floor was February 8, 2020, against then No. 8 St. Edward's.
The Falcons have a quick turn around as they'll face Texas A&M International on Saturday at 3 PM. Download the UTPB Athletics App for coverage of your favorite Falcon teams all season long.
