The UT Permian Basin tennis courts got a fresh new look recently after being resurfaced with the Plexipave Surfacing System. The Plexipave System is the same system used at major tournaments such as the Australian Open and BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.
Â
"The Men's and Women's Tennis teams love the resurfaced tennis courts," said Head Coach
Stan Anderson. "The bounce of the ball is much more consistent which allows the team to work on various strokes and tactics. I would like to thank Director of Athletics
Todd Dooley, Steve Buck, Dr. Becky Spurlock, and Jeff Wise from Texas Courts and Wide Screens for their support to make this project possible."
Â
What does this mean for the Falcon Men's and Women's Tennis team?
- Tennis balls will have a longer life.
- The surface is the same as what they play their majority of their matches on.
- Having a consistent surface will reduce and prevent injuries.
Â
"Being able to have resurfaced courts has brought happiness to several of my teammates and myself," said freshman
Briana Garcia. "For a lot of us the courts symbolize a new beginning and a fresh start for our tennis careers. I'm beyond excited to start training once the spring rolls around. I'm positive the spring semester holds great things for the UTPB Tennis team."
Â
The Plexipave system is a combination of texture and finish coats that provide a long-wearing color surface of uniform texture. It also protects from numerous climatic conditions and protects the asphalt from the sun's ultraviolet rays. Based on 100 percent acrylic water vehicle coatings, the Plexipave dries rapidly and allows surfaces to breathe by moisture vapor to pass through the dried film.
Â
The system has been has been around for almost four decades including numerous technological advancements. The surfacing is durable and asbestos free along with it being a colorful playing surface compatible with hot mixed asphalt, asphalt emulsion surfaces, and suitably prepared concrete.
Â
"The courts look so great," said senior
Mariah Briones. "I'm so thankful that UTPB did this for us, and I can't wait to see the future of the program! We'll be sure to show our appreciation by bringing home some wins this upcoming spring season! Go Falcons!"
