Rory Carter dropped a team high 13 points in UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball season opener against Colorado Mesa on Friday night. Carter scored each of the team's first seven points and finished 5-of-9 from the field.
Alexus Quaadman scored six of seven Falcon points to bookend the half and sparked a 7-0 run.
Avalon Munoz added a basket and Carter hit a three-pointer to pull the Falcons within six points in the third. Late in the third quarter the Falcons went on a 10-3 run highlighted by four points each from Munoz and
Kamari Portalis.
Back-to-back baskets from
Ally Haman brought the Falcons within six of the Mavericks in the fourth. After a pair of Maverick free throws,
Alexus Wykoff made a pair of her own followed by a jump shot to bring the Falcons within four half way through the fourth quarter. That's as close as they would get as the Mavericks slowly pulled away for the 62-52 victory.
Quaadman and Wykoff each had eight points. Munoz led the team with six rebounds and collected six points on the night.
The Falcons will be back tomorrow at 5 PM against South Dakota Mines. Download the UTPB Athletics App for coverage of UTPB Women's Basketball all season long.
