Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Falcons Begin Tolin Era with W in the Dome

Things got closer than Head Coach Kyle Tolin would've liked for his first win at UT Permian Basin, but in the end his Falcons pulled off the narrow 79-77 victory over Adams State Friday night.  Jordan Horn led all scorers with 19 points while Dajuan Jones impressed in his Falcon debut with 12 points, nine assists, and five rebounds.

It was the Grizzlies who punched first taking an early five-point lead and forcing a Falcon timeout.  That sparked the Falcon offense who drained a three on three straight possessions as part of an 18-5 run to lead by 11.  With the first half winding down, Horn hit back-to-back threes to push the lead to 15 before the Grizzlies hit a wild three at the buzzer.

The lead slimmed in the second half, with the Grizzlies slowly chipping away at the Falcons.  The Grizzlies tied the game on three separate occasions but each time the Falcons were able to answer right back.  With the score tied at 67, Kendal Frey buried a three.  Jones hit a jumper in the paint after a Grizzly lay-up.  The Falcons stole the ensuing inbounds pass and Keyon Craddock drained a corner three.  After a stop on the defensive end, Zavon Godwin made a lay-up to push the lead to eight with 2:50 to go.  The Grizzlies cut the lead down to just one with eight seconds to go, but a pair of free throws by Miles Daniels iced the game.

Daniels joined Horn and Jones in double figures with 10 on the night.  Craddock led the bench with nine points, all via the three ball.  As a team the Falcons shot 41.7 percent from deep and were led by Horn who went 4-for-6 from long range.

It's a quick turnaround for the Falcons who will take on Westminster tomorrow at 4.  The Griffins opened the season prior to the Falcon game, falling to Western New Mexico.  Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
