UT Permian Basin Volleyball started slow on the attack Friday night, so it was their defense that carried them against Oklahoma Christian. The team combined for a season high 21 blocks for their fourth straight Lone Star Conference win.
Chandra Reed had a team high eight on the night along with five kills.
The offense came out firing and took an early five-point lead, but the Eagles fought back to tie the set at 12. Momentum changed after a Falcon point was overturned on video review as the Eagles pulled ahead on a 7-1 run. That run proved to be the difference as the Falcons fell in the first set 25-20.
The Falcons got off to a slow start in set two. Two aces, two errors, and a Falcon service error put them behind early 9-5. The teams traded points, but a four-point Falcon run put them back in front, including a pair of blocks by the front line. The Falcons began to pull away but not before a three-point run by the Eagles to pull within a point. With the Falcons needing it most, they got kills from
Isela Murillo and Reed to close the set and even the score.
In set three, the Falcons trailed early after a 5-0 run by the Eagles. Down 15-10, the Falcons stormed back with a 12-0 run to put the set away. The Falcons flexed their muscle up front with four blocks during the run. After taking all the momentum, the Falcons opened the fourth set on a 9-1 run. The Falcons controlled the game from taking the set 25-13.
"We had a great team effort," said Head Coach
Tim Loesch. "It was a defensive battle, they made us work for every point. Our team improved and finished strong."
Aquincia Strambler finished with a game high 14 kills along with eight digs.
Sara Antic had her second straight double digit kill night with 13.
Analise Lucio had 23 assists while
Karli Stanley added 12.
Daylee Doggett continued to shine defensively with 24 digs while
Isela Murillo had 17 and Lucio had 14. Antic had four blocks while Strambler, Maycee Barker, and
