Sophomore
Alexus Quaadman continued to add to her program record for double-doubles, recording her second of the year Saturday. The Las Vegas native scored a team-high 16 points while pulling down 13 rebounds and blocked a pair of shots. She kept possessions alive with 10 offensive rebounds.
The Falcon offense struggled to get going for much of the afternoon and trailed Texas Woman's by 11 heading into the fourth quarter. They began chipping away at the deficit with a pair of
Chaunta Thomas free throws and a Quaadman layup.
Nokoia White connected on a three and
Kim Best followed with a free throw to make it a five-point game. Best answered a Pioneer basket with a jumper to keep pace with five minutes to go.
Avalon Munoz trimmed it to a one-possession game with a pair of free throws. Quaadman scored off a
Morgan Helgesen offensive rebound to cut the deficit to one. The Falcons trailed by three when Munoz was fouled with 2:15 to go. She sank the first and after missing the second, Quaadman made the put back to tie the game at 50. The Pioneers twice hit a pair of free throws to take the lead in the final minute but were answered both times by Best. Best connected on a layup with 10 seconds remaining, and then with three seconds on the clock to send the game to overtime.
The teams traded points back and forth early in overtime before
Rory Carter connected on a three to give the Falcons the lead. The Pioneers answered back and then connected on a layup after a Falcon miss to go up by two. Out of a timeout the Falcons drew up a play for Helgesen who buried the three-pointer to put the Falcons in the lead 66-65. On the other end, they were called for a foul and the Pioneers sank both free throws for the 67-66 final in overtime.
The Falcons outscored the Pioneers 21-10 in the fourth quarter. Their bench dominated the Pioneers, outscoring them 34-14.
The Falcons hit the road next Monday for a make-up contest at Cameron starting at 5 PM.
