Despite a 26-point fourth quarter, it was too late as UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball fell to Arkansas Fort Smith 86-57. The Falcons outscored the Lions in the first and fourth quarters but went cold in the second and third quarters on offense.
The first quarter started as a defensive battle as the first basket was made by
Alexus Quaadman at the 8:26 into the game. Both teams started to find the rim at the 3:43 mark, including back-to-back baskets by
Nokoia White to give the Falcons (1-2) a 14-10 lead and eventually an 18-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Falcon offense struggled to find the bottom of the net in the second and third quarters despite a number of open looks.
The Falcons found some life in the fourth quarter as
Karyssa Jackson hit a pair of free throws and scored a layup in the next possession. Shortly after
Jada Berry connected on back-to-back threes to start an 11-0 Falcon run to end the game.
Berry led the Falcons with nine points and four rebounds..
Alexus Quaadman and
Nokoia White were right behind with seven points each. Quaadman led the team with seven rebounds and
Morgan Helgesen led the team in assists with five. Jackson,
Ogechi Nwodo and
Rory Carter each had a pair of blocks.
Avalon Munoz had a Falcon high three steals.
The Falcons will be back in action on Tuesday as they face Cameron at noon in the Falcon Dome. The game is a make-up of a contest previously postponed due to COVID-19.
