Jordan Horn continued to fill the score sheet with 29 points, his fourth 20-plus point game in the last five, but it wasn't enough as UT Permian Basin couldn't overcome a second half deficit and fell 81-74 Arkansas Fort Smith. The senior is now averaging 22.9 points per game on season, second in the Lone Star Conference among players with more than one game played.
Â
It was a low scoring game throughout much of the first half, but the Falcons (6-1) couldn't keep up with the Lions (1-3) from the outside. The Lions led by as many as 11, but the Falcons continued to battle and went into the half down five after a layup by Horn.
Â
A pair of free throws early in the second half by Horn cut the deficit to just three but the Lions answered with a 15-4 run to pull away. The Falcon offense struck quickly to get back into the contest. After struggling from the outside,
Wesley Hayes and
Trevion Lamar knocked down threes and were followed by a pair from Horn to tie the game at 55.Â
Â
The Lions rebounded and started to pull away down the stretch, but the Falcons three-point plays on back-to-back possessions by
Malik Brikat and Horn put the Falcons back into the game. Back-to-back layups by
Quinntez Grimes and Horn made it a one-point game but that's as close as the Falcons would get. A pair of late threes by Horn kept it close but the Lions made their free throws down the stretch.
Â
Horn led all scorers with 29 points, along with six rebounds and four steals.  Brikat was the only other Falcon in double figures with 12 points and seven boards along with a pair of blocks. Grimes had seven points, nine rebounds, and three assists.Â
Â
The Falcons hit the road next weekend to take on Texas A&M – Kingsville in a pair of weekend match-ups.
