Trailing at the half and playing tight throughout the contest, UT Permian Women's Basketball outlasted Texas Woman's Friday afternoon in the Falcon Dome, claiming a 64-59 victory.
Junior guard
Nokoia White stunned the Pioneers in the final stretch scoring a career-high 19 points, including eight points in the fourth quarter to help the Falcons close out the victory.
The Falcons had two players score in double figures, White led with 19 points while
Morgan Helgesen finished with 11 points.
The Falcons (4-7) got off to an early lead scoring five-straight points.
Jada Berry hit a three and was followed by an
Alexus Quaadman layup. The Falcons upped its lead to seven on another layup by Quaadman to move ahead 11-4 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter the Falcons led by as many as eight before the Pioneers ended the half on a 12-2 run to take the lead heading into the half.
The Falcons started the third quarter on a 6-0 run. White started the run with a layup and
Chaunta Thomas made a pair of free throws and a layup to take back the lead. The Falcons had in an impressive shooting quarter finishing, 7-for-11, 64.6 percent, from the floor.
The Falcons held a steady lead throughout the third quarter and when the fourth quarter hit White took over outscoring the Pioneers 6-2 in the first 90 seconds of action to put the Falcons up seven. The Falcons led by as many as eight in the fourth quarter securing the 64-59 victory.
The Falcons crushed the Pioneers in fast break points 20-1 including 10 in the fourth quarter. They also had 21 points off turnovers including 11 in the third quarter and 24 points in the paint.
Other top performers for the Falcons were
Rory Carter leading the team with five rebounds and
Avalon Munoz dishing out five assists.
