Avalon Munoz put together the best game of her young career Friday at St. Edward's. The San Antonio native posted career-highs in points (11), rebounds (six), and steals (six) while also dishing out five assists. Her efforts on both ends of the court weren't enough as the Falcons fell to the Hilltoppers 74-57.
The Falcons (3-7, 2-7) trailed the Hilltoppers (3-5, 3-5) by one going into halftime but it was close throughout the first half. The Falcons started strong with a 7-0 run. Karyssa Jackson hit her first points on the day on a three-pointer. The Hilltoppers mounted a comeback to take a 20-18 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter saw four lead changes as both teams had streaks of finding the basket, but it was the Hilltoppers who had a one-point advantage heading into the half, 30-29.
The Falcons first points of the third quarter came at the 5:20 mark with a jumper by Munoz. Jackson then hit a pair of free throws and a jump shot, but the Falcons trailed 47-40 going into the final quarter.
Nokoia White scored nine of her 11 points in the fourth, but it wasn't enough as the Hilltoppers outscored the Falcons in the fourth for the 74-57 final.
Jackson scored a career-high 12 points in the game. Carter finished with nine points.
The Falcons will host Texas Woman's University in the Falcons Dome for another Lone Star Conference matchup starting next Friday.
