Quaadman Double-Double Leads Falcons to Statement Road Win

UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball got back in the win column with a 59-51 victory over St. Edward's in Austin, TX. Bri'an Washington led the Falcons with 15 points while Alexus Quaadman tallied her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 boards. Nokoia White also hit double figures in the points column, finishing with 10.

The Falcon (3-6) offense got off to a fast start as Morgan Helgesen knocked down a jumper and Jada Berry hit a three-pointer to give the Falcons an early 5-0 lead. The Falcons ended the first quarter up 15-13.

The second quarter was much of the same for the Falcons as they opened with a 9-0 run. It started with a Nokoia White jumper. Bri'an Washington hit a three-pointer and Lauren Stallworth made a basket. White ended the run with a layup and the Falcons were up 22-13 at the 6:50 mark of the second quarter. The Hilltoppers (2-5) made a run of their own to close out the quarter and both teams went into halftime 27-27.

After halftime, both teams could not find the basket early as the only points were from free throws by the Hilltoppers until White hit a layup with 6:28 to go, sparking a 12-0 Falcon run. Helgesen made a pair of free throws, Quaadman hit a layup with a pair of free throws and was followed by a Jada Berry layup. Quaadman finished the run with a layup and the Falcons led by nine 39-30.

Washington scored 10 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter hitting a pair of threes, a jump shot and a pair of free throws to lock up the Falcons 59-51 victory.

The Falcons controlled the paint with 40 rebounds while only allowing 29.  Avalon Munoz led the team with four assists and Kim Best had the only block for the Falcons.

The Falcons return to action tomorrow against the Hilltoppers at 3 p.m. in Austin.
