Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Matches Best Six Game Start in Program History in Win Over UAFS

UT Permian Basin Men's Basketball stayed hot, tying the program record for most consecutive wins to start the season with six, in a 77-67 victory over Arkansas Fort Smith.  The RV Falcons (6-0) used a balanced attack with four players scoring in double figures in the victory.

The teams went back and forth early trading points.  Back to back threes by Wesley Hayes pulled momentum to the Falcons but the Lions (0-3) quickly took it back with a short run of their own.  The Falcons closed the half on a 7-0 run after a pair of Trevion Lamar free throws to take the biggest lead of the game heading into the half at 37-30.

The Falcons finally took a double digit lead on the back of a Malik Brikat layup but the Lions answered right back.  The visiting team trimmed the Falcon lead all the way down to three before Jordan Horn calmly sank back to back threes to push the lead back to nine.  The Lions slowly climbed back into the game, but the Falcons blew the game open with a 13-0 run capped off by threes by Hayes and Horn.  After a made basket by the Lions to end the run, Fermandez Jones buried a three to make it a 20-point lead.  Still the Lions wouldn't go away, going on a 12-0 run of their own to get the game back into single digits.  Their momentum was halted by a techincal foul and Horn sinking the free throws as the Falcons hung on for the 10-point victory.

The Falcons 6-0 start ties them with the 2016-17 team for the longest winning streak to start the season.  Horn led the Falcons with 19 points.  Brikat finished with 17 points and eight rebounds on an efficient 8-for-9 shooting.  Hayes had a career-high 15 points off the bench, knocking down five threes.  Lamar was also in double figures with 12 points.  Quinntez Grimes was a force in the paint with six boards and four blocks.

The Falcons and Lions are back in action tomorrow at 4 PM in Odessa before the Falcons travel across Texas to face Texas A&M - Kingsville.
