Lamar Shows Off All-Around Game with Monster Double-Double Against No. 7 WT

Trevion Lamar took over the offense, erupting for 33 points while pulling down 10 rebounds for his first double-double as a Falcon.  He scored 22 of his points in the second half, but the No. 7 West Texas A&M offense was too much to overcome as the Falcons fell 88-77.

The Falcons (6-5) came out firing and jumped to an early seven-point lead on the strength of seven points by big man Malik Brikat.  The momentum swung the other way when the Buffs (5-1) knocked down back-to-back threes putting them right back in the game.  The teams traded points and the lead switched five times.  Despite the early momentum in favor of the Falcons, the Buffs closed the half strong with a 7-0 run and the Falcons trailed 48-36 heading into the locker room.

The second half was much more of the same, with neither side able to really grab momentum and out together an extended run.  The Falcons trailed by as many as 14 early in the half, but a personal eight-point run by Lamar brought the upset-minded Falcons to within five.  That was as close as they'd get, as the Buffs answered with a small run of their own and the teams swapped baskets until the final buzzer.\

Lamar finished the night with his 33 points on 13 made field goals.  Brikat came within a rebound shy of his second double-double, finishing with 13 points and nine boards.  Making his second consecutive start, Fermandez Jones posted his third straight double digit effort with 13 points.  Off the bench Adam Rivera grabbed six boards and Wesley Hayes added five boards.

The Falcons remain on the road next week as they head to Austin to face St. Edward's in a pair of games starting Thursday.
