UT Permian Basin Baseball's stayed hot Saturday, scoring 17 runs in a doubleheader with St. Mary's at Security Bank Ballpark in Midland. Six Falcons had multiple hits between the two games, including
Nick Hernandez's team-high four. It wasn't enough as the Falcons fell in both halves of the doubleheader.
The Falcons scored four runs in the bottom of the first after the Rattlers scored one in the top half.
Nick Hernandez doubled down the right field line scoring
Michael Clapperton to tie the game 1-1. The score was not tied for long as
Garrett Thornton hit a home run to left for the Falcons to take a 3-1 lead.
Alex Wixson doubled down the left field line to score
Devin Ferrari to take a 4-1 lead after one inning.
The Rattlers pulled within one as they scored one run in the second and the third, but the Falcons answered back in the third and fourth innings.
Jonathan Bermudez hit a sacrifice fly to right scoring Hernandez to take a 5-3 lead after three innings.
The fourth inning was the big inning for the Falcons as they tallied five runs. Jay Desoto doubled off the top of the wall in left scoring
Pemron Burrows and
Lincoln Choate. Desoto later scored on a Bermudez single to left.
Devin Ferrari doubled to left scoring Bermudez and Thornton to give the Falcons a 10-3 lead. After the Rattlers scored two runs in the top of the fifth the Falcons responded with two of their own in the bottom half. Clapperton singled to scoring Choate and Desoto singled through the right side scoring Burrows to claim back the seven run lead. The Rattlers scored 12 unanswered runs in the sixth and seven innings to claim the 17-12 victory.
Jay Desoto led the Falcons with three hits and three RBI.
Michael Clapperton,
Garrett Thornton and
Jonathan Bermudez each had two hits.
In Game two the Falcons got on the board first on a
Garrett Thornton sacrifice fly to center scoring Logan Choate for an early 1-0 lead. The Rattlers scored runs in the second third and fourth innings before UTPB answered back in the bottom half of the fourth.
Michael Clapperton drove in
Joey Winkler and later scored on a
Nick Hernandez two RBI triple also scoring
Lincoln Choate. Hernandez scored on a Thornton single up the middle as the Falcons fell to the Rattlers 11-5.
Nick Hernandez led the Falcons with three hits and tied for the team lead in RBI with
Garrett Thornton with two.
The Falcons will look to split the Series with the Rattlers in the series finale tomorrow at 1 PM at Roden Field.
