Five Falcons Score Double Digits in Win Over WNMU

In a must win situation to stay alive in the LSC, playoffs the UT Permian Basin women's basketball team defeated Western New Mexico 79-63 in Silver City, NM on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons started the scoring on an Alexus Quaadman layup 10 seconds into the game to start the Falcons on a 10-5 run. The Falcons and Mustangs were tied with 3:31 to go in the first quarter, but a 10-0 Falcon run sparked by Rory Carter's back to back three pointers put the Falcons up 24-16 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter the Falcons biggest run was a 7-1 run as Yazmin Batch had four of the seven points during the run including a three pointer. The Falcons headed into the locker room up 41-35 at the half.

The Falcons started the second half with a 5-0 run. Batch knocked down another three pointer and Quaadman made a couple of free throws. The next highest run was a 9-3 run with Holly Hemmeline leading the four Falcons who scored on the run with three points. Both teams scored 17 points in the quarter as the Falcons led by six points going into the final quarter 58-52.
In the fourth quarter the Falcons were led by Hemmeline as she scored eight of the Falcons 21 fourth quarter points to win the game 79-63 over the Mustangs.

Hemmeline led the Falcons scoring 18 points on the day. Rory Carter finished with 17 points and led the Falcons with six assists. Kristian James, Alexus Quaadman, and Yasmin Batch all finished with 11 points. Quaadman recorded a double-double with her 11 points and a team high 12 rebounds. Lauren Stallworth grabbed 10 rebounds and scored seven points.

Next up for the Falcons will be in the Falcon Dome against Lubbock Christian University at 5:15 PM on Feb. 27th.
