Ferrari's Blast Carries Falcons Past UAFS

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 UT Permian Basin baseball wrapped up their series with UA Fort Smith with a split. They took the first game in a tight contest 5-4 before falling in the finale 7-6.

Devin Ferrari started the scoring for the Falcons in the fourth inning.  Down 1-0, Ferrari blasted a three-run home run scoring Garrett Thornton and Johnathan Bermundez to take a 3-1 lead in the fourth. The Lions answered back with one run of their own to trim the Falcon lead to 3-2.

The Falcons scored two more runs in the fifth Michael Clapperton hit a double to left field scoring Pemron Burrows and later Clapperton came home on a Jay DeSoto batted ball to first base for the 5-2 Falcon lead. UAFS scored two more runs in the game, but the Falcons held on for a 5-4 victory.

Nick Hernandez and Garrett Thornton both went 2-3 at the plate each collecting a double. Devin Ferrari drove in three runs on his home run in the fourth.

Trever Berg went the distance striking out six Lions in seven innings of work.

In game two the Falcons started the scoring in the top of the second inning. Andrew Williams doubled to left field scoring Joey Winkler and Garrett Thornton to go up 2-0. UAFS scored two in the bottom half of the frame to tie it 2-2.

The fourth inning once again was the big run producer for the Falcons. Pemron Burrows earned a RBI the hard way by reaching base on a hit by pitch scoring Devin Ferrari. Michael Clapperton reached on base on a groundball to second base scoring Lincoln Choate, and Alex Wixson brought in two runs on a single to left field to give the Falcons a 6-2 lead. The Lions chipped away in the fifth, sixth, and seven innings and scored five runs in those innings to give them the 7-6 victory.

Alex Wixson and Andrew Williams both drove in two runs for the Falcons. Spencer Cofer came in relief and closed out the last two innings for the Falcons allowing no runs and inducing four ground outs.

Next up for the Falcons will be a four-game series against the St. Mary's Rattlers. Friday and Sunday's game will be at Roden Field at 2:00 PM and 1:00 PM respectively. The teams will be at Security Bank Ballpark on Saturday for a double header starting at 1:00 PM.
