Alexus Quaadman and
Kristian James both set new career-highs with each scoring 20 points. James added 10 rebounds off the bench of the senior's first career double-double. Their efforts weren't enough as the Falcons (9-16, 5-13) fell to the St. Mary's Rattlers (12-11, 11-8) 81-72.
The Falcons got to a quick 4-1 lead on a couple of Quaadman lay-ups, but the Falcons trailed at the end of the first quarter 25-16. The big run for the Falcons in the second quarter was an 8-0 run with five of the points coming from Quaadman. The Falcons trimmed the deficit to seven, but the Rattlers closed the half with an 8-1 run and the Falcons trailed 44-30 at the half.
Both teams traded baskets throughout the third quarter with neither team really able to grab momentum. The Falcons closed the gap late in the fourth quarter. They ended the game on a 14-5 run, but it was too late as the Rattlers held on to the final buzzer.
Rory Carter added 12 points off the bench to the effort.
Holly Hemmeline was held scoreless but contributed with six boards and a team-high four assists. Quaadman was a terror on the defensive end with four more blocks and a team-high five assists. The freshman is now tied for the program all-time blocks record with 44 in just her freshman season.
The next game for the Falcons will be on Saturday at 3 PM in Silver City, New Mexico against Western New Mexico.
