Nick Bartley and reliever Danny Juarez threw a combined shutout scattering 10 Hilltopper hits as they took game one of the four-game series 2-0 on Friday.
Both teams were held scoreless through five innings as Bartley pitched five innings allowing six hits and striking out seven Hilltoppers. Danny Juarez closed the door and collected the win allowing four hits and collecting four strikeouts in four innings of work on the mound.
The only offense came in the sixth inning.Â
Michael Clapperton worked a walk and
Pemron Burrows followed by getting hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Jay Desoto drove them both in on a double into the right center field gap to grab the 2-0 lead. Juarez escaped trouble in the eighth with a bases loaded strike out, and in the ninth with runners on second and third.
Jay DeSoto went 2-for-3 in the ball game with two RBI while
Nick Hernandez went 1-for-3.
The Falcons will be back tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at noon. Game two is scheduled to start at 2:30
