Rory Carter scored 18 points and moved into third place in UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball freshman scoring history Saturday at #19 West Texas A&M. The Las Vegas native now has 224 points on the season, tying her with Lauren Unger for third all-time and trails Tammy Acosta and teammate
Holly Hemmeline in freshman scoring. Senior
Yazmin Batch had her best game as a Falcon, notching 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals. It wasn't enough as the Falcons (8-13, 5-10) fell to the ranked Lady Buffs 83-52.
The Falcons fell behind early but climbed quickly back in the game with some hot outside shooting. Carter drained a three and was followed by back to back possessions with a Hemmeline three to tie things at 15. The Falcon offense struggled to get going in the second quarter and was held to just eight points as the Lady Buffs took a 15-point lead into the half. They opened the second half with a 9-0 to put the game out of reach. The Falcons opened the fourth quarter with a 12-3 run but it was too late as the Lady Buffs pulled away down the stretch.
Carter and Batch were the only Falcons to score in double figures. Hemmeline added eight points while
Chaunta Thomas had six on 3-of-3 shooting.
The Falcons return home for a pair of important games in the Lone Star Conference. The Falcons face Oklahoma Christian Thursday and UAFS on Saturday. They currently sit 13th in the conference, just outside a spot in the Lone Star Conference playoffs.
