At times it looked like
Jordan Horn couldn't miss as the junior exploded for a career-high 32 points in a dominant 96-78 win over Western New Mexico in the Men's Basketball home opener. Horn scored 27 points in the first half and kept pace with the Mustangs for much of the period.
The team's traded buckets early, with the Mustangs (0-1) slowly taking the early lead. Much like Saturday, it was Horn taking charge with a 5-0 personal run to take the lead.
Wesley Hayes buried a three and Horn hit a pair of free throws to push the lead to seven. They continued to pour it on, with the Mustangs in foul trouble, the Falcons (3-0) made 16 free throws in the first half. Horn continued to score in the first half finishing with 27 points on 9-of-10 shooting including 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
A pair of threes by Hayes, a pair by
Adam Rivera, and a lone three by Horn to start the second half continued to push the lead. A free throw by
Jay Workman gave the Falcons a 28-point lead, the largest of the contest as they cruised down the stretch.
Along with his hot shooting, Horn found his teammates to the tune of five assists. Hayes finished with 13 points and Rivera added 11.
Quinntez Grimes and
Malik Brikat had eight points a piece while Workman and
Trevion Lamar added seven each.
The Falcons are back in action this weekend against Cameron University at 3 PM on Friday, and then Saturday at 1 PM.
